breeding regulations of the Dutch Chow Chow Club
On March 16th, 2003 the members of Dutch Chow Chow Club accepted the "Breeding regulations of the Dutch Chow Chow Club" in effect per the same date. Following the part of the regulations concerning well-being, breeding and health.Requirements of well-being, breeding and health
- Both parents have to be in good health.
- The parents may not be related as parent/child or (half-)brother/(half-)sister.
- A combination of a certain sire and dam may only be repeated once (max. two litters from the same combination).
- The breeding should be natural.
- Artificial insemination is only allowed after approval based on a motivated request, at least a month prior to the intended insemination.
- Dogs and bitches born on/after January 1th, 2001 must be tested on genetic defects (knees and hips) before breeding. At the date of testing they should be at least 12 months old. Testing the hips for HD must be done by a veterinarian who is approved by the Dutch Kennel Club. The testing of the knees must be done by one of the veterinarians named in the Dutch Chow Chow club-magazine #2 2003.
- If the HD rating is HD-E breeding is prohibited. A rating of HD-D is only allowd be bred in combination with HD-A.
- If the knee-instabillity rating is grade 3 breeding is prohibited. A knee rating grade 1 or grade 2
is only allowed to be bred with knee rating free.
If there is a patella luxation is only allowed to be bred with free of patella luxation. - Breeding anxious and/or biting dogs and bitches is prohibited.
- Both parents should be good examples of the breed. Breeding stock born on/after January 1th, 2001 have to get at least two qualifications Very Good or Exellent on official shows.
- concerning the dam
- The bitch must be at least 18 months old when she is bred.
- A bitch should not be bred from the day she is 7 years old.
- At the time of whelping her first litter a bitch should not be any more as 54 monts old.
- The whelping should be natural.
- If the bitch needs a caesarian section to get the pups out for a second time, she is prohibited from further breeding.
- A bitch is allowed to produce one litter in 12 months, or two in 24 months, if the time in between whelping and breeding again is at least 8 months.
- A bitch may produce four litters max. in her lifetime.
- concerning the sire
- The dog must be at least 14 months old when he is used to breed.
- A dog may produce 3 litters in a calender year.
- A dog is allowed to produce twelve litters in his lifetime.
- The pups must stay with the breeder until they are 8 weeks old.
