You have beautiful dogs, and your website is so well put together! I've often heard Chow Chows were difficult dogs to own because they were hard to train and were a one-person dog. But every Chow Chow I've met has been a wonderful dog!

Hi,
what an extensive, informative website about chows. I just lost my Luna July 22/06. I had her for 10 years, she was a rescue chow. My house seemed empty, quiet. I couldn't stand it any longer. This weekend Mikki, blue 3 year old chowgirl joined me and my two cats. What a wonderful breed. Just love'em.
Thanks for the many helpful links, I like the one re BARF.
Thanks, Karin

i have looked at many Chow pages but i really loved yours. we have been owned by several chows over 20 years, 2 males and 2 females (both adopted) all reached well into their teens in age. we currently have a super red boy should I say teenager! he has a female Samoyed of similar age to keep him company. they are both doing well at obedience training.
Feeding we have always fed lots of fresh food, especially chicken wings and beef bones. both our old ladies had fabulous teeth, pearly white and no decay i find it hard to believe that vets suggest brushing dogs teeth. i guess if they only eat canned food (soft muck) and kibble maybe they need it. We whole heartedly agree about clipping we live in a very hot climate (Australia) in summer with moderately cold winters and none of our long haired dogs have ever suffered from hot spots etc. great site thank you

Hi:
I read about Pandora and saw how my own second chow chow, a rescued blue merle, resembles her history. My rescue, a blue merle chow, has always had trouble walking. We did two surgeries on her back knees several years ago, but she never recovered fully. Her surgeon said she had already developed significant arthritis in her back knees and would always have pain. There was nothing much to do about it; we got her when she was three years old, a rescue in need of much vet care. We bought her a special heating pad (made for dogs) which she likes to lie on when her arthritis acts up.
I am sorry for your losses. You provided your chowies a wonderful life.
Best to you always.
Mary
